Personal care products are part of our daily self-care routines and we commonly use them without hesitation. But what if you knew that those same products might actually be putting you and your family at risk? These formulations are used directly on our skin and in turn their ingredients can be easily absorbed into our bodies where they come into direct contact with sensitive tissues and organs. Granted when you look at a single application, the amounts of toxins in shampoo, conditioner and body wash are fairly negligible. But we usually use many different products and are exposed to a variety of other environmental toxins in our air, water, food and other sources every day. Healthy Choices to Reduce Toxins & Exposure to Harmful Chemicals

Regardless of our differences, we share the common goal of providing ourselves and our families with a safe and nurturing environment. We make many positive choices - preparing nutritious meals, encouraging physical activity, baby proofing our homes when necessary. But despite our best efforts, these choices may not result in maximal positive results because there are many more insidious dangers that we may not be aware of like the chemicals that we are exposed to on a daily basis that thwart even our best intentions. In today’s world, we are inevitably exposed to some degree of toxin load on a daily basis and although we may not be able to eliminate that exposure completely, there are actions that we can take to minimize the potential harm.

More than 15 years ago, at the start of my medical career and expecting my first child, the neurologist confirmed what the first clinician had suspected - the tremor I had been experiencing over the preceding year was Young Onset Parkinson's Disease. Life changed forever as I now faced a progressive neurological disease in my twenties. Soon after my own diagnosis, my father also received the same news. Understanding Our Toxin Load

When we have families, we take on the sacred responsibility of providing them with a safe and nurturing environment where they can grow and thrive.  And we do our best based on the knowledge that we have.  We hold our children’s hands as they cross the street and make sure they wear their bike helmets, but how many of us are aware of the daily dangers our families face from seemingly innocuous products?  The toxins in items that are commonly used and readily available?  Those in our environment?  These dangers lurk in what we eat and drink, the goods that we use in our homes or on ourselves.  Each and every day we face a toxin load that we may not be aware of.
